Many Clayton neighborhoods are home to residences designed by Raymond E. Maritz and W. Ridgely Young, principals of the distinguished architectural firm of Maritz & Young. Two of the six Forsyth School historic houses are Maritz & Young houses.
Kevin Amsler and John Schott, authors of The Architecture of Maritz & Young: Exceptional Historic Homes of St. Louis will discuss their book, followed by a book signing and optional touring of Forsyth School’s Maritz & Young houses. Books will be available for purchase at this event.
Forsyth’s classrooms are contained in 6 stately, spacious houses, which are all listed on the National Register of Historic Spaces of the U.S. Department of the Interior as part of the Wydown-Forsyth Historic District. Forsyth’s one-of-a-kind campus has developed over the years beginning with the purchase of the School’s first house in 1965, with subsequent acquisitions following in 1977, 1989, 1995, 1996, and 2012.
